Big Dreams

A rich blend of comedy and serial-drama, Big Dreams is a half-hour TV series that follows the outlandish adventures of Nick and Jason and their struggle to survive while trying to get their foot in the door of the entertainment industry. Through these adventures, the show explores the dynamics of friendship, the downfalls of dreaming big, and the complexity of a first love.

Nick and Jason, best friends and amateur filmmakers from Vancouver, are lured to Edmonton by aspiring director and film school dropout Greg under the pretense of making a small independent feature film called “Sleep Cycles”. They quickly discover that as well as being on the brink of homelessness, they have been the victims of a bait and switch – Greg introduces them to wanna-be producer Christine, and her pet project “Blood Assassin,” an action movie full of hugely expensive, over the top, unfilmable action sequences. Realizing they don't have much say in the matter, they are forced to go along with the new project and stumble their way through day jobs to pay the bills.

Struggling to shoot a Hollywood action script with no budget while working their way up the ranks as landscapers, their very friendship is put to the test when Jason starts dating aspiring actress Janelle, a young woman from Calgary hired to act in the film. As they grow closer, he and Nick drift farther apart leading Nick to question his move to Edmonton. With their big dreams fading in front of them, both Nick and Jason must decide what is most important to them.

Full of misguided characters chasing dreams they can't live up to, Big Dreams targets the male 18-34 demographic. It takes a typical one-camera sitcom, and blends it with an ongoing dramatic storyline that drives each of the thirteen episodes in the first season.
